Started in 1954, West Berkshire Mencap is a voluntary organisation that is one of the most active and successful local Mencaps in the country. It provides quality services and support to people with a learning disability and their families and carers to help them get the most out of life.

Services include our after school club for children with a learning disability. Here under the supervision of trained Mencap staff and teenage volunteers, children develop their social skills while their parents and carers benefit from some respite.

We offer sports, drama and leisure activities and also promote Gateway Award which is similar to the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme. Here members work through their bronze, silver and gold awards. Topics include health and safety through to developing hobbies and helping people in the community.

West Berkshire Mencap also provides education, training and employment opportunities through our sheltered work scheme at Link Up. Link Up run a light assembly and mailing house and this service for has proved to be popular with local businesses who outsource their mailing and packaging requirements.

In addition we provide a family advisor service to help individuals and families gain the right support and benefits that they are entitled to throughout their lives.

To continue our work we rely on grants and donations from trusts and local companies. We also welcome support for fundraising events including running the London 10k, to attending corporate hospitality events.
